Kwik Trip, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Safety Leader.  The purpose of this position is to develop, manage and train on strategies to eliminate accidents and injuries and support the overall wellness of our coworkers at the Transportation through Safety, Occupational Health and the Department of Transportation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Daily discussions with coworkers on safety; working safely while at Kwik Trip, proper lifting, hearing conversations, and reducing injuries, etc.
  • Reviews applicable regulations and polices that exist, then plans, prepares, reviews, updates and directs corporate safety programs and policies
  • Inspects and evaluates workplace environments, equipment, and practices providing technical guidance to Directors and Department Managers on DOT and safety compliance
  • Work alongside Distribution Division Safety Lead to review and update coworker safety programs/computer-based training programs to determine their adequacy
  • Develops and maintains Department’s annual safety and fleet safety related budget
  • Analyze and interpret statistical data, which includes findings from accident investigations and etc. for issues or trends
  • Identify and appraise conditions which could produce accidents and financial loses and evaluates potential extent of injuries resulting from incidents
  • Review findings/statistical data with top management for incorporation into the Kwik Trip’s safety management process/Zero Injury Culture.
  • Prepare reports in hard copy or electronic forms for presentation to unit managers
  • Reviews and interpret safety data and directs required safety training activities to meet OSHA and DOT compliance

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and / or five plus years work experience in a Transportation/Warehouse environment or manufacturing facility, with an emphasis on workplace safety
  • Candidates should have the 10-hour OSHA certification or the ability to obtain it, as well as be First Aid certified
  • Solid understanding of DOT, OSHA, NFP and other federal and state mandated safety regulations
  • Knowledge of safety policies / programs, GMP’s, and sanitation practices
  • Knowledge of daily transportation operations / processes
  • Knowledge of PPE and chemical safety
  • Possess exceptional presentation skills with the ability to influence change
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities
  • Demonstrate a high level of time management and organizational skills resulting in the ability to prioritize multiple projects and manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the company including top management, coworkers, suppliers and customers
  • Skilled in making formal persuasive presentations to top management pertaining to the interpretation of safety programs, policies and procedures
  • Ability to operate a computer and be proficient with Microsoft Office products

 

Work Schedule:  This salaried position is required to work 45-50 hours per week primarily 5 days a week. Even though typical working hours will be during the day time, flexibility with working weekends, evenings and even some overnights is required to visit and oversee all shifts within the Distribution Division.
